This smooth and ultra creamy DIY matcha body butter is a great way to moisturize dry skin this summer!

Made with natural antioxidant-rich matcha green tea, this DIY matcha body butter is scented with lavender essential oil to help soothe and comfort the skin after being in the sun.

Working with traditional plant-based moisturizers like shea butter and coconut oil, this DIY matcha body butter also contains a small amount of carnauba wax for a non-greasy, smooth finish.

You’ll love the soft, whipped buttercream texture of my matcha body butter as it melts instantly into skin providing relief.

The addition of matcha green tea powder helps to give this soothing vegan body butter a step up. Not only do the antioxidants in matcha green tea help to support skin health, but matcha tea also works to reduce skin inflammation as well as free radicals that accelerate skin aging.

As a result, your skin will look and feel softer and healthier after each use!

Matcha Body Butter Recipe

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. You will need a digital scale to weigh out the shea butter and the fractionated coconut oil for your DIY matcha body butter. In addition, you’ll also need a measuring spoon and a graduated transfer pipette to measure out the wax, matcha green tea and the essential oil.
  2. Weigh out the refined shea butter into a 4-cup glass Pyrex measuring cup.
  3. Then measure out the carnauba wax using a quarter teaspoon measuring spoon. (If you live in a particularly warm area, you can double the amount of carnauba wax to keep your matcha body butter from melting.) Add the carnauba wax to the container with the shea butter.
  4. Heat the wax and shea butter together using either a double boiler method or in a microwave at 40% power until melted. (You don’t want to heat the shea butter too quickly or it can become grainy.)
  5. Carefully remove the container from your heat source, then weigh out and stir in the fractionated coconut oil. (Fractionated coconut oil, unlike regular coconut oil, is always liquid at room temperature.)
  6. Using a measuring spoon, measure out the matcha green tea and whisk into the melted ingredients.
  7. Add 3 mL of lavender essential oil using a plastic graduated transfer pipette. Follow with several drops of vitamin E oil and mix well.
  8. Place the container of melted matcha body butter in the refrigerator. Once it solidifies, remove from the refrigerator and set aside until it reaches room temperature.
  9. Then, using a power hand blender, whip the matcha body butter until it is smooth and creamy.
  10. Pour or spoon your matcha body butter into a container or containers of your choice. Then label your jars as desired for gifting or personal use.

I used three 2.3 oz. clear glass thick wall cosmetic jars for my matcha body butter and had just a little left over. However, this recipe will fill four 2 oz. jars just about perfectly! Here are 2 oz. thick wall jars that would work.

To use simply massage a small amount onto skin until absorbed and enjoy!

Note: If you have allergies to coconut oil, camellia seed oil makes a really lovely substitution and has similar properties to fractionated coconut oil making it the best substitution for this application.
